I am a freelance writer and novelist generally published under the pseudonym D.B. Grady. My latest books are Deep State: Inside the Government Secrecy Industry (available in hardcover and ebook) and The Command: Deep Inside the President's Secret Army. Both books were co-authored with my friend Marc Ambinder, and both were published by John Wiley & Sons. I am a correspondent for The Atlantic and a regular contributor to The Week, Mental Floss, and Clearance Jobs. Other publications include a novel, short stories, and essays.
My background: In 2002, I graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in computer science. Not long after, I joined the Army and did a tour of duty in Afghanistan. At various points in my life, I have alley docked eighteen-wheelers, flipped burgers, jumped out of airplanes, and written Bezier spline generation algorithms. Presently, I am a member of the Authors Guild and the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, and a grant recipient from the Fund for Investigative Journalism. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
