Grady’s delightfully sardonic wit permeates the matter-of-fact gumshoe voice from the first page [of Red Planet Noir] to the last. I found myself smiling often and even laughing out loud! His imaginative use of metaphor and simile creates distinctive imagery throughout. This is where I turned a very deep shade of green. I don’t do similes. Certainly not well, but I may have learned a thing or two from Mr. Grady.
Maybe I’m biased, but she’s clearly a genius.
Meanwhile, fellow Campbell candidate (and likely winner!) David J. Williams, author of the critically acclaimed Autumn Rain trilogy [check out The Burning Skies here] has declared all-out unofficial non-war on the competition. From his blog:
